Questions
About this website
Is this website really free?
Yes. Every guide is free to read, there is nothing to sign up for, and the site carries no adverts and no tracking.
Are you a law firm?
No. Free Legal Advice UK is an information website published by Web Designer Limited. We are not a law firm, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and we do not give legal advice.
Who writes the guides?
Our editorial team writes each guide from primary and official sources, such as legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK, the courts and Acas. Every guide lists its sources and shows when it was published and last updated. See our editorial policy.
Does the information apply to Scotland or Northern Ireland?
Our guides describe the law in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate legal systems, and each guide says where their rules differ. Some topics, such as renting, also differ between England and Wales.
How do I get advice on my own situation?
Our free legal help page lists organisations such as Citizens Advice, law centres, LawWorks and Civil Legal Advice. To find a solicitor, you can search the Law Society's Find a Solicitor and check a firm on the SRA register.
How do I report a mistake?
Please use our contact form. We review every correction request and update the guide, and its date, if a change is needed.
